Underactive Thyroid and Losing Weight

So it's been super hard to lose weight, which it is for a lot of people. But I was doing all the right things, working out and eating at a good deficit. I should have been losing weight. I've basically been battling the scale for the past three years when I got pregnant. I've been in the 190s for the past three years. I've gone up and down about ten pounds, up down, up down. Over and over and the weight just wouldn't come off.

I also am just completely exhausted all the time and can barely think. My brain feels foggy.

I went to the doctor and she checked my thyroid. It was very underactive. I got medicine to control it. It says that it can take about a month to start feeling better from the medicine. I've been on it for two weeks now. I don't really feel a difference in my energy or an improvement in the brain fog yet. But I have lost 7 pounds. I don't even know why. I've been exercising and eating at a deficit JUST like before, like the exact same calories and exact same exercises. But it's finally working. The dr said that if my thyroid isn't working right I just will not lose weight no matter what I'm doing.

I don't want to get my hopes up but I am excited at the possibility of the medicine helping me to feel better overall and helping my metabolism to lose the weight.

Does anyone have any stories to tell about when they were diagnosed with hypothyroidism and how it affected their weight? Did you find it easier to lose weight when you started medicine for you thyroid?

  1. I'm curious how your weight loss is coming since being in the synthroid regularly? I too have hypothyroidism and it is a struggle to lose weight! But I know it can be done, it's just now work. Please feel free to email me if you want to chat. I'm in the same boat. Peachoonie@hotmail.com
